Advanced Techniques

Of the available submission techniques, there are a few that require a high degree of control to administer without causing injury (like neck cranks and face locks). Similarly, a few of the submissions cause little pain before an injury is sustained (like knee bars and heel hooks). As a result, these techniques are not to be practiced in a sparring situation without express consent of the instructor AND your sparring partner. It is important that the person applying the hold has a ‘feel’ for how hard to apply them without causing injury, and it is also important that the ‘victim’ has felt the hold in a controlled setting such that they know when to tap.

***Do not apply the following moves in sparring unless authorized to do so!!!

  • knee bars
  • heel hooks
  • twisting knee locks
  • neck cranks
  • face locks
