Clothing & Footwear

Although there is no code for the clothing that can be worn to the class, the basic outfit is a T-shirt with either sweat pants or shorts. You’ll want to wear something that’s comfortable and cotton. Avoid anything with buttons or zippers. If you wear earrings or other body piercings, remove them prior to class. Furthermore, all jewelry should be removed as well.

Wrestling shoes are strongly recommended, and can be purchased at a few sporting goods stores in town or over the internet. Ask a group member or an instructor if you can’t find them yourself. At any rate, wear your wrestling shoes on the mat, and only on the mat. Don’t bring in ‘street’ shoes to class. If that’s your only option, then go barefoot.

As a courtesy to other group members, grabbing of clothing during sparring is not encouraged. If you severely rip the clothing of another student, you may be asked to provide a replacement for the article of clothing that you destroyed.
