Hygiene

Realizing that you will be placed in a position of close physical contact with other students, hygiene is of particular importance. Aside from the usual courtesy of regular bathing and wearing of clean clothing, a couple of particular points need to be made.

First, make sure your fingernails are regularly trimmed and are clean. Long and/or dirty fingernails will lead to scratches that can become easily infected. Second, please do not use hair gels (or other hair-care products) or colognes prior to coming to class. If your hair is full of gel or if you like to wear lots of cologne, please wash it off before coming to class. Aside from the potential hazard of the material getting in your eyes, many people have allergies to scents or perfumes.

In the event that you have cuts, scratches or open sores, be sure to cover them completely with Band-Aids or bandages prior to class, and be sure to routinely check the dressings during class.
